Our TeamStephen J. Peters, a partner at the firm, is heavily involved in the firm’s litigation and appellate practice. Steve’s primary practice consideration is in the areas of employment and labor, insurance coverage and business disputes. Steve has handled litigation before state and federal courts in Indiana and other jurisdictions. In addition to trial work, Steve has served as primary or amicus curiae counsel in over 100 appeals in Indiana and other jurisdictions on important issues affecting tort, insurance and business law. In its annual survey of verdicts and settlements, the Indiana Lawyer recognized Steve’s multi-million dollar recovery on behalf of a client as the largest reported recovery in Indiana for 2000. He has also served as chairman and panelist in seminars for the ABA TIPS Insurance Coverage Litigation Section, Defense Research Institute, Indiana Continuing Legal Education Forum and National Business Institute. In 2009 and 2010, Steve was selected as an Indiana "Super Lawyer."
Steve earned his B.A. degree, cum laude, from Amherst College and his J.D. from the Indiana University - Bloomington School of Law. Steve is admitted to practice before the Indiana Supreme Court, and to the U.S. Districts Court for the Southern and Northern Districts of Indiana, the U.S. Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court. He has presented arguments on behalf of clients in the Indiana Supreme Court, Indiana Court of Appeals, U.S. Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, Kentucky Supreme Court and Tennessee Court of Appeals.
Steve is active in The Defense Research Institute and served as co-editor and co-author of DRI’s “Bad Faith Compendium” Indiana) (Spring, 2004), “Bad Faith Compendium Update” (Indiana) (Summer 2006) and “Protecting The Privilege” National Publication Project (Fall, 2001). Steve also served as co-editor and co-author of Insurance Litigation in Indiana (1992) which was prepared for the National Business Institute.
Steve has been listed since 1987 in Martindale-Hubbell with the prestigious “AV Rating.” Steve has twice been elected Club President of The Hawthorns Golf and Country Club in Fishers, Indiana. Steve currently serves as secretary for the Lawyers Club of Indianapolis, and is the Chairman of the IBA Litigation Section. He also serves as Vice Chairman of the ABA Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee.
